Education Experience
B.F.A,
Dance Studies-LIU Post
While studying at Long Island University, Jess received an extensive education, receiving a minor in Arts Management. Jess studied multiple styles of dance, had audition prep classes, worked with various industry professionals, and also had experience in acting and voice. Jess was also a TA for beginner ballet and tap.
Jess also had the opportunity to perform in the Post Concert Dance Company end-of-semester shows, as well as choreograph for the shows for 3 years. In this environment, Jess learned how to adapt to different kinds of dancers, as well as take and apply feedback from her peers and faculty.
"Panorama" by Martha Graham
Perhaps one of the biggest achievements Jess had while studying at LIU was the opportunity to perform with and learn from the Martha Graham Dance Company. The company was scheduled to perform at the Tilles Center on campus, and that led to the opportunity for Martha's famous work "Panorama" to be set on the Post Concert Dance Company.
The dancers spent the spring 2018 semester with Susan Kikuchi, a dancer who worked with Martha Graham personally, to help set and execute the piece. The experience was documented and featured on PBS' "In Motion" season 1 episode 4.
